Verdict

The Dharavi Bank series tells the story of a guy named Thalaivan who lives in a slum called Dharavi; the treatment of the series is what makes the series stand out among all the gangster’s movies and television shows.

The first episode is very exciting, full of heavy and intense events taking place in Mumbai; the premise hooks you right away, making you feel like you’re a part of the story. However, the series slows down for the next four episodes or so, and the sheer amount of drama can make viewers lose interest.

There are flaws and lag in a few episodes, though the film has many elements in the remaining episodes that make you feel the edge of your seat thriller. The journey of Thailvan and how a guy from Tamilnadu rules Mumbai from Dharavi and who runs the biggest crime syndicate all seemed quite unnatural at the outset, but once you delve into Thalaivan’s journey you will understand.

Sunil Shetty as Thalaivan is outstanding, as is Vivek Oberoi as JCP Jayant; the latter never fails to deliver a stellar performance, and the rest of the cast—Sonali Kulkarni, Luke Kenny, Freddy Daruwala, Shanthi Priya, Santosh Juvekar, Nagesh Bhosle, and Siddharth Menon, among others—all gave stellar performances as well.

While the film does have its problems, Samit Kakkad succeeds in engaging the viewer with what is essentially a standard gangster plot rendered exciting by the way it is presented onscreen.

The photography and score complement the tone, and the rest of the crew did a fine job, but there was room for improvement in Dharavi Bank technically.

Dharavi Bank is, in the end, a must-see show.
