Govinda Naam Mera Movie Review: “Bhoot-Part 1” was the last movie that talented actor Vicky Kaushal had in theatres. His most recent movie, “Sardar Udham,” had its direct premiere on Prime Video. After a break of almost a year, he is now putting out the movie “Govinda Naam Mera.” But even this movie has decided against a theatre run and is now available to watch on Hotstar. Let’s take a close look at this movie to see if it lives up to its catchy name.
Govinda Waghmare is a choreographer in the Hindi film industry, but he is not very good at what he does. His wife Gauri calls him a “good for nothing.” Also, Govinda starts to like Sukubhai Deshmukh, who is also a struggling choreographer. Govinda decides to leave Gauri and marry Sukubhai after a few times. But things take a strange turn when Govinda is named as the main suspect in a murder.

The Hindi film industry has been having a hard time for a few months now. Many bad movies have bombed at the box office, and people aren’t interested in going to the theatre to watch Hindi movies anymore. The people who made Govinda Naam Mera might have thought the same thing and put that movie on OTT. According to the people who made it, this movie is for everyone who likes to watch movies that have comedy, songs, fights, and twists all in one.
Even the funny parts of this movie would wear us out because the plot was so simple, even though some of the actors did a good job. There are a few funny one-liners, but the humour in the movie is not very good overall. This is true all the way to the end, which means that some of the plot twists are ones we have seen in many other movies. Even though this story seems much older than it is because it was written for that time, filming for this movie didn’t start until 2019.
Vicky Kaushal’s performance as Govinda Waghmare was great, but the design of the character didn’t live up to what this talented actor is capable of. Even though Bhumi Pednekar has always picked interesting stories and roles, her reactions and performances in her most recent movies may have become boring. The stage is small, and Kiara Advani’s role is more like that of a glamour doll. Dayanand Shetty, Sayaji Shinde, and all the other actors did their jobs so that the story made sense.
The movie Govinda Naam Mera looks good from a technical point of view. Songs by Meet Bros, Tanishk Bagchi, B Praak, Sachin-Jigar, and Rochak Kohli are fine, but they could have been better if we had seen this movie in a theatre. The cinematography by Vidhushi Tiwari also seems average, but the visuals in the songs are bright and well-made. Excellent production values.
“Govinda Naam Mera” is not as good as the movies “Badrinath Ki Dulhania,” “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania,” and “Dhadak” that director Shashank Khaitan made before. There are a lot of bad ideas in the movie, which is a shame. Aside from a few interesting parts here and there, Shashank didn’t stand out at all during the whole movie.
In general, Govinda Naam Mera is an old comedy with not many funny parts. You can watch this movie online at Hotstar if you have no other choice.
