Highway Movie Review: When Dorasani was released, it was Anand Deverakonda’s first film, however, it was not a commercial success. Middle-Class Melodies, his second film, was an online-only exclusive. The highway is only being released digitally, which makes sense given that his previous film, Pushpaka Vimanam, was a box office flop but did well on the OTT platform.
Let’s take a look at Aha’s newest original series, Highway, to see if it’s worth your time.
Story
A photographer by trade embarks on a cross-country adventure and finds love on the road. Meanwhile, a psychopath is on the hunt for five ladies, but he’s not leaving any hints for the authorities. How the killers and the photographer are linked is the focus of the story’s subsequent events.
Cast & Crew
Excellent supporting turns are provided by Abhishek Banerjee, Saiyami Kher, John Vijay, Reshma Pasupuleti, and Sathya Jyothika (Anand Deverakonda and Manasa Radhakrishnan). Filmmaker KV Guhan also penned the screenplay. The film’s production was headed by Venkat Talari. KV Guhan photographed every frame personally, and the score was composed by Simon K. King. Thammiraju is the movie’s editor.

Movie Verdict
Highway’s story has some intriguing elements, but the film’s overall trajectory will leave you bewildered. The protagonist and the story told in this film come across as extremely unsophisticated. It doesn’t appear like there are many exciting or engaging moments in the movie. The director has relied on a tired plot device in order to create a generic thriller. The film’s climax is at once unexpected and predictable.
Anand Deverakonda has a lot of room to develop as an actor. When his work is at stake, he acts emotionless. Saiyami Kher, as the investigative officer, has impressed me. Abhishek Banerjee is the only memorable performer in the film, despite our familiarity with him from his work in Hindi. When Satya tries to inject some comedic relief, the rest of the ensemble responds enthusiastically.
As far as movies go, this one still holds up rather well. Simon K. King did an excellent job scoring the film. Although there are several stunning locations in the film, KV Guhan’s camerawork is nothing special. KV Guhan tried his hand at a thriller again after “WWW,” but the results were disappointing.
Overall, Highway has some fantastic moments and manages to hold your interest throughout.
